How it all started:
The Montessori Teachers Collective was created by Don Jennings, a Montessori elementary teacher from Massachusetts. The first version, then named the Montessori Teachers Collaborative, was uploaded to AOL on December 8, 1996. A name change accompanied a new design in March 1997; the Montessori Teachers Collective started to grow. Other projects at the time included the Montessori Parents Forum and the Montessori Schools Online Webring, but September 1999 saw a move to new server space and the acquisition of a domain name -- all three sites (MTC, MPF, MSO) were integrated at www.moteaco.com.

The site went offline for a while in 2005. In October of 2008 Don uploaded the site in a new format and is currently working to get things running smoothly again. He's in a new career directing a residential summer camp in New Jersey, and happily connecting the dots between a normalized classroom and a normalized camp. Check back often as the MTC gets its legs under it again in the weeks ahead. There's more to come!

Folks I Know:
- YMCA Camp Mason is a great traditional summer camp in Hardwick, New Jersey.
- Seacoast Center is a Montessori teacher training program in Stratham, New Hampshire.
- Woodside Montessori Academy is in Millis, Massachusetts.
- Andover School of Montessori is in Andover, Massachusetts.
- Cornerstone Montessori School is in Stratham, New Hampshire.

Volunteers: Working behind the scenes.
A small but dedicated group of volunteers help to support this site, from translators and quote collectors to typists and contributors. Without their effort there would be no MTC. Herein lies an official 'thank you', in lieu of riches and fame.
